We are pleased to welcome you.
This is the Island Biennale Organizing Committee.
Hosted by Chungcheongnam-do Province and Boryeong City, the Island Biennale is a contemporary art exhibition held every two years across five islands off the coast of Boryeong, designed to let visitors experience art inspired by the islands’ unique natural landscapes and maritime culture. The first edition will be held in April 2027, beginning with Wonsando and Godaedo, and will gradually expand in future editions to include Sapsido, Jang-godo, and Hyojado.
Established in 2024, the Island Biennale Organizing Committee aims to bring greater visibility to the island region and to foster the growth of local arts and culture. We are heading toward our starting point in April 2027, with the vision of filling the islands with profound and overflowing beauty. We look forward to your continued interest and support as we embark on this exciting journey into the Island Biennale.

The Wonsan-Anmyeon Bridge, connecting Yeongmok Port on Anmyeondo to Wonsando, opened in December 2019. Later, in the second half of 2021, an undersea tunnel linking Daecheon Port to Wonsando was completed, making it possible to access the island by car instead of by ferry.
That’s why we look forward to seeing it become a magical island, offering families both peaceful summer escapes and exciting leisure experiences.
This island is also the first island in Korea where Christian missionary work was carried out. Karl Gützlaff, the first Christian missionary to Korea, brought potato seeds to help the impoverished people of Joseon who were suffering from hunger. He not only planted them himself but also documented how to cultivate them in Korean.
Godaedo, with not only its stunning scenery but also its rich history, offers visitors a deeper and more meaningful travel experience.
